Will 87 octane gas increase sludge buildup inside car engine?

My vehicle is a toyota corolla 2006. Normally, I use gas octane 89, sometimes 91. But someone told me that I can use 87. Others said cheap gas could cause sludge buildup inside the system. I don't know which one is true? Can you help me? Thanks.
