I want to feed my dog homemade chicken and brown rice. Any advice?

I am tired of feeding him canned dog food. It is crap and expensive. I can't afford to feed him the really good canned food so he gets the crap and much of the time he does not eat it. So I made a big batch of boneless chicken and brown rice. But he does not seem to want to eat all the rice. Advice please.
